René Descartes

Philosopher, Mathematician, Scientist (1596–1650)

René Descartes is regarded as the father of modern philosophy. His method of systematic doubt and analytical thinking helped establish the scientific method.

Descartes contributed to mathematics by developing Cartesian coordinates, linking algebra and geometry, and laying groundwork for calculus.

“Cogito, ergo sum.”

His dual emphasis on reason and logic shaped modern Western thought, science, and epistemology.
